About

A design function that lives in the code.

I build and own design-system infrastructure for the AI era: the code, the tokens, the agent-readable docs, and the function that keeps design, engineering and AI codegen in sync.

Who

Chris Learey

Twenty years in design, most recently leading design systems at Nivoda, where I owned the architecture, the tokens, the component APIs, the documentation, and the move of the design team into code.

I'm not a design consultant who talks about engineering, and I'm not an engineer who picked up design. The work needs both at once, and there are not many people sitting in that seam.

The design system is the mechanism, not the product. What I build is a design function that lives in the code: correct UI as the default output of the build, so a coding agent cannot ship something nobody designed.

The audit is where it starts. It measures whether an agent can build with your system as it stands, in your own repository, with the evidence attached. If the answer is that a rebuild is worth it, that's the work I do.
